Kansas City, MO –The University of the Cumberlands volleyball team held strong at No. 10 in the latest NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Poll, released Wednesday by the national office. The Patriots remain one of the top teams in the country as they continue their undefeated season, standing at 21-0 overall and 7-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
Since the last poll, Cumberlands has gone 4-0 with wins over (RV) Cumberland University, Bethel, Freed-Hardeman, and No. 25 Lindsey Wilson. UC has now recorded 16 consecutive sweeps and remains perfect at home (7-0), on the road (8-0), and at neutral sites (6-0).
The Patriots continue to rank among the nation's best statistically, sitting at No. 1 in the NAIA in attack percentage (.321) and No. 2 in assists per set (13.27). As a team, Cumberlands is averaging 14.2 kills per set, 2.65 service aces per set, 16.0 digs per set, and 1.6 blocks per set.
Sara Zampedri leads the MSC with 254 kills (3.85 per set) on a .293 hitting percentage, while
Brynnley Bryant follows closely with 212 kills (3.26 per set).
Kara Gipson has been dominant in the middle with 136 kills and leads the country with a .483 hitting clip, and
Alana Shiery has tallied 135 kills while hitting .409. Setter
Savanah Jolly has continued to pace the attack with 743 assists (11.26 per set), while libero
Davey Slaughter anchors the defense with 272 digs (4.18 per set).
In the latest poll, Cumberlands is one of three Mid-South Conference programs recognized nationally, with Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland University both receiving votes.
The Patriots will look to keep their perfect record intact when they return home to face Campbellsville on Thursday, October 16th, at 7 p.m. ET inside the UC Volleyball Gym.
