Williamsburg, KY – Abigail Little and Nicole Araujo combined for four goals and three assists as the ninth-ranked Cumberlands women's soccer team defeated Campbellsville 4-0 Wednesday night at the UC Soccer Complex. With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-3-3 on the season and 2-2 in MSC play, while the Tigers move to 8-7 and 3-2 in conference action.
Araujo tallied a career-high six points, two goals and a pair of assists, in the victory. Little tallied her second multi-goal game of the season and added an assist in the win. Alba Ramirez also dished out an assist in the contest. Defensively, UC's backline limited the Tigers to just five shots in the match as Morgan White made two saves to secure her eighth clean sheet of the season.
The Patriots fended off a corner kick early in the contest, before taking the lead. In the 10', Alba Ramirez sent a ball into the box, where Araujo centered it for Little to finish, giving UC a 1-0 advantage. Cumberlands continued to dominate the possession over the next few minutes before extending their lead in the 22'. A yellow card set up a free kick from just outside the box and Araujo utilized a strong strike to place the ball into the upper corner of the goal for her sixth goal of the year while making it a 2-0 lead. Morgan White was called upon twice over the next few minutes keeping the Tigers off the board as Cumberlands took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Both teams notched corner kicks in the first two minutes of the second half. The Patriots were tenacious in getting possession as they worked the ball to the top of the box where Little connected with Araujo for a goal making it 3-0 in the 49'. A few minutes later, Little showcased strong ball control before sliding a shot inside the near post to give UC the 4-0 advantage. Cumberlands continued to control the possession tallying ten more shots in the period, including one from Little that deflected off the crossbar. Campbellsville looked to rally late as a Tigers' shot hit the crossbar in the 88' as Cumberlands earned the 4-0 final.
UC earned a 20-5 shot advantage and had a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks in the match.
The Patriots remain at home to face Freed-Hardeman on Monday, October 20th. The match is set for 4:30 p.m. and Cumberlands will honor their 2025 senior class prior to the match.
