Williamsburg, KY – The Cumberlands men's swimming & diving team opened the season with a bang, breaking a pair of school records while sweeping first place in all 12 events to earn a 158-48 win over Shawnee State Friday afternoon at the UC Swimming Pool. On the day, the Patriots notched eight national standards.
Aidan Crutchfield and
Alexander Poulsen both broke school records in UC's home opener. Crutchfield, who is the reigning NAIA Diver of the Week, built upon his success last week. The freshman recorded a 248.40 on the one-meter board, breaking the previous school record set in 2024 by eight points.
Poulsen etched his name into Cumberlands record book as he pulled away from the field and clocked a 44.29 in the 100 free. That time is a new Patriot record by 0.08 seconds and is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season. Teammate
Arvid Farro clocked a 46.98 in the 100 free to clip a provisional cut.
Adam Geddis,
Luke Rich, Poulsen, and
Eli Urban opened the day by teaming up to clock a 1:37.70 to win the 200-medley relay.
Geddis followed that up with a pair of individual wins. He opened the day clocking a 21.43 in the 50 free, clipping a provisional standard, before touching the wall in 52.85 to win the 100 back.
The Patriots notched a one-two finish in the 200 IM with newcomer
Fabrizio Pacioni touching the wall in 1:54.29 to win the race with a provisional cut. Teammate
Ruthiik Satti went 2:00.21 to earn the runner-up finish.
Jeremiah Koenig pulled away from the field to clip a provisional cut and post a wining time of 58.95 in the 100 breast.
Veterans
Arda Mutlu (1000 free),
Juan Ramirez Zapata (500 free), and
Sergio Saldamando Martinez (200 free) won their respective distance events clocking a 10:37.30, 4:51.80, and 1:49.64, respectively.
Leon Irmer collected the final individual win of the day clocking a 53.35 to win the 100 fly.
Cumberlands closed out the meet with Satti, Farro, Poulsen, and
Brandon Holder teaming up to clock a 1:24.30 to hit the "A" standard.
UC returns to the water Saturday, October 18
th, when they travel to Columbia, KY to face Lindsey Wilson. The meet is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. EST.
