#10 Patriots Serve Up Season-High 17 Aces in Sweep Over Kentucky State

Williamsburg, KY – The 10th-ranked Patriots capped its non-conference schedule in dominant fashion Wednesday night, sweeping Kentucky State 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-7) inside the UC Volleyball Gym. The Patriots fired off a season-high 17 aces in the match while hitting an incredible .600 as a team to improve to 28-0 on the season.
 
Cumberlands put together one of its most efficient performances of the year, recording 44 kills on just two errors while holding the Thorobreds to a .038 hitting percentage. Brynnley Bryant led the attack with 12 kills on .476 hitting, while Kara Gipson posted a perfect .1.000 mark with nine kills on nine swings. Elaina Fischer added seven kills on .875 hitting, and Alana Shiery chipped in six kills and five blocks.
 
Setter Savanah Jolly directed the offense with 27 assists and one ace, while the Patriots' serving game was electric from start to finish. Kendall Yarber and Davey Slaughter each tallied six aces, combining for 12 of UC's 17 on the night. Sara Zampedri added three aces to go with seven kills and seven digs as UC's serve pressure set the tone throughout the match.
 
The Patriots came out dominant from the opening whistle, hitting .652 in the first set while holding Kentucky State to just five kills. Yarber and Slaughter combined for seven aces in the frame as UC jumped out to a 17-4 lead before closing it out 25-7.
 
Cumberlands maintained control in the second, using a 10-1 run fueled by Zampedri's serving and back-to-back kills from Bryant and Shiery to take a 25-9 win. In the third, UC never looked back, scoring 11 of the first 13 points and finishing with a .562 hitting percentage to complete the sweep.
 
Cumberlands will be back in action Saturday November 1st to take on Cumberland University on Senior Day. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET from the UC Volleyball Gym.
