Fredricks’ Career Performance Leads #19 Patriots Past #15 Owls

Williamsburg, KY – On the day she was honored for breaking the program's career blocks record, Zaram Fredricks etched her name in the record books once again breaking the single game blocks record while grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds.  That performance catapulted #19 Cumberlands women's basketball team to an 85-67 win over #15 Oregon Tech Wednesday night on Randy Vernon Court.

Fredricks closed out the game with six blocks, 17 rebounds, and 10 points for her third double-double of the season.  UC had six players in double figures led by Peyton Mounce with 15 points, while Joy Kendrick tallied 14 points and five boards.  Lakin Burke chipped in 13 points as Aden Clark and Darcie Anderson netted 11 points apiece, while combining for seven rebounds and seven steals.

Oregon Tech (3-1) struck first, however, the Patriots responded with back-to-back three-pointers from Peyton Mounce and Aden Clark to put UC in front 6-2 with 8:29 remaining.  Jaydyn Carrico added a putback, before Zaram Fredricks hit a five-foot jumper to extend UC's lead to 10-5 with 6:10 remaining.  The two teams traded points before Lakin Burke tallied a block and on the transition Joy Kendrick connected with Mounce from the corner giving the Patriots a 17-9 advantage.  Darcie Anderson has drained a three-pointer as Kendrick added a putback giving Cumberlands a 25-12 lead after the opening period.

 
The Patriots (7-1) opened the second quarter with Mounce hitting from behind-the-arc.  A minute later, Burke converted a putback before Clark connected with Kendrick for a pull-up jumper to extend their lead to 32-16 with 7:40 remaining.  Two minutes later, Clark stepped in front for a steal and sank a jumper to extend the lead to 43-22 midway through the second quarter.  A hustle play by Fredricks grabbing her eighth rebound of the night leads to a Carrico layup making it 46-30 with 2:50 remaining.  In the closing seconds of the half, Burke drained a three-pointer to extend Cumberlands lead to 51-38.

Fredricks continued to crash the boards grabbing multiple defensive rebounds and three blocks to open the third quarter, while Mounce and Carrico combined for eight points to as Cumberlands took a 60-38 lead with 6:45 left.  Oregon Tech went on 14-6 run, before Burke converted a three-point play to extend the lead to 69-52 with 1:52 remaining.  The two teams traded points as the Patriots closed out the quarter leading 70-57.

Fredricks tied her career-high with her fifth block and 15th rebounds, before finishing with a layup for her third double-double of the season as UC took a 72-59 lead.  Kendrick and Anderson converted six from the charity stripe, while Kendrick converted a three-point play extending UC's lead to 83-63 with 2:52 left.  Two possessions later, Fredricks notched her sixth block of the contest on an Avery Andrews layup, to give her the single game mark.  Andrews netted the final four points of the contest for the 85-67 final.

 
UC closed out the game with 23 second chance points and 32 points in the paint. 

Cumberlands will return to action on Saturday, November 22, when they travel to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for a 1 PM matchup.
