Bowling Green, KY - For the second time this season, University of the Cumberlands freshman Alexander Poulsen has been named Mid-South Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. Poulsen delivered a historic performance this past weekend at DePauw University, setting multiple school and NAIA records.
Poulsen became the first Patriot swimmer to break the 20-second barrier in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in 19.94 to set a new school record and claim the top time in the NAIA. He continued his dominant weekend by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 44.49, breaking the pool record and posting an NAIA provisional cut.
The Birkerød, Denmark native made history as part of UC's relay teams, including the 200-yard freestyle relay, which posted a time of 1:21.43 — shattering the previous school record and topping the NAIA rankings by nearly a second. He also helped the Patriots win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 2:59.07 and the 400-yard medley relay in 3:18.57, both NAIA-best times, and was part of the 200-yard medley relay that broke the pool record with a 1:29.53 finish.
Poulsen and the Patriots will be back in the water on Friday, November 7th against Asbury at the Patriots Aquatic Center at 6 PM.
