Williamsburg, KY – Strong performances on the week leads to wrestlers Micah Miller and guard Kyle Duke being named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Micah Miller earned athlete of the week honors after winning her division at the Wasp Open. Competing in the 160-weight class, Miller posted a 4-0 record with three falls and a tech fall. Miller opened the tournament, tallying a fall against Kelynn Dunn at the 1:46 mark in the first period. The junior followed that up earning a fall over Margaret Page (Emory & Henry) in just 53 seconds. Miller notched a fall at the 1:21 mark to secure a spot in the championship match. Miller finished out the tournament with an 11-1 tech fall, garnering a trio of two-point takedowns and a four-point takedown for the 11-1 victory.
Kyle Duke earned athlete of the week honors after stellar play in the Patriots road win over Rio Grande. In the game the grad student netted a game-high 24 points as Cumberlands pulled away in the second half for the win. Duke went 7-12 from the field and an impressive 10-12 from the charity stripe to lead the way. He also grabbed four rebounds and tallied three assists in the win.
