Bowling Green, KY – Following a dominant championship performance, Malachia Harris has been named the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Ranked No. 10 at 165 pounds, Harris went a perfect 4-0 on the day to capture the 165-pound title at the Battle in the Bluegrass. After receiving a first-round bye, Harris opened his tournament run with a 19-4 technical fall at the 3:00 mark over Ben Blyveis of Cleary. He followed with another quick tech fall, defeating Noah Myrick of Brewton-Parker in just 1:39.
Harris continued his dominant run in the semifinals, posting his third consecutive technical fall with a 21-5 victory over Benjamen Mitchell of Simpson in 4:32. He capped off the championship performance with an 18-7 major decision over No. 16 Braden Getz of Marian, using a flurry of 3-point takedowns to secure the individual title.
The performance marks Harris' first Mid-South Conference weekly honor of the season and the first of his career.
