No. 3 UC Women's Wrestling Battles Fierce Competition, Collects Five Podium Finishes at Grand View Open

Des Moines, IA - The third-ranked Cumberlands Women's Wrestling team traveled to Grand View University to compete in their final Open of the 2024-25 season, the Grand View Open.

UC had five podium finishes, including: Micah Fisher (160 bout, 2nd Place), Presley Anderson (124 bout, 3rd Place), Shammilka Miranda (117 bout, 4th Place), Dutchess King (103 bout, 6th Place), and Alivia Ming (145 bout, 6th Place).

Leading the way for the Patriots, Fisher posted a 4-1 record on the day in the 160-weight class to claim a second-place finish. In her first bout of the day, she went head-to-head with Renee Miguel (Waldorf). She recorded a 10-0 tech fall over her opponent to advance on and face No. 17 Mohagany Casel (Wayland Baptist). Fisher worked relentlessly and notched an 11-2 decision over her opponent. Moving on, Fisher met with Kiley Hubby (Dickinson State) and marked another 10-0 tech fall to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, she faced off with Rose Cassioppi (Uni. of Iowa) and worked diligently to record a 5-0 decision victory and advance to the championship match. Fisher claimed a second-place finish after forfeiting her final bout of the day.

Following Fisher, Anderson posted a 6-1 record on the day in the 124-weight class to claim a third-place finish. In her first bout of the day, she fell just short of the mark against Catherine Steinkamp (William Penn) to head to the consolation portion of the bracket. Anderson received a bye before facing Lexie Lopez (Fort Hays State). She quickly recorded a 12-1 tech fall before making light work of her opponents. Anderson went on to notch a fall in 3:41 against Alyssa Ruiz (Texas Wesleyan), notched a 10-4 decision against Ava Rose (Iowa), and marking a 13-2 tech fall victory against Mariah Smith (McKendree). Having reach the quarterfinals, Anderson met with No. 20 Tess Barnett (Wayland Baptist) and effortlessly notched the fall in 2:06. In the bout for third place, Anderson met with Estefany Garcia (Life) and made quick work by recording a 10-0 tech fall and claiming the third-place finish.

In the 117-weight class, Miranda posted a 4-2 record on the day to claim a fourth-place finish. Miranda opened the day with a bye through the first round of bouts, lining her up with No. 18 Ashtyn Sagely (Missouri Valley). Miranda worked skillfully to record the 15-2 tech fall victory. In her second match of the day, Miranda fell short of the mark and was sent to the consolation portion of the bracket. Miranda was paired with Reianna Ogden (Sioux Falls) and quickly notched the fall in 2:52. She followed by notching her second fall of the day in 1:21 against Yianna Foufas (Unattached). Miranda continued to work through the consolation bracket, notching her third consecutive fall of the day in 5:03 against No. 7 Mayangelie Colon (Grand View). In the quarterfinal's bout, Miranda fell just short against No. 4 Cailin Campbell (Grand View) but still claimed a fourth-place finish.

Following Miranda, King posted a 3-3 record on the day in the 103-weight class to claim a sixth-place finish. In her first bout of the day, King notched a fall in 4:03 over No. 18 Sofia Abramson (Oklahoma City). In her second match, King fell just short of the mark against No. 6 Judy Sandavol (Grand View) to be sent to the consolation bracket. In her third bout, King bounced back by notching her second fall of the day against No. 16 Malarie Dominguez (Wayland Baptist) followed by a 10-4 decision victory over Brianna Funakoshi (Life). King forfeited her final two bouts of the day against No. 3 Alexis Miller (Oklahoma City) and No. 8 Devyn Moore (Grand View), seeing her collect a sixth-place finish.

In the 145-weight class, Ming posted a 2-3 record on the day to claim a sixth-place finish. Ming opened the day with a bye through the first round of bouts, lining her up with No. 6 Sevreign Aumua (Missouri Valley). Ming notched the fall in 4:21 to secure the victory and advance on. Ming was paired with Alexis Burton (Fort Hays State) and recorded a 9-2 decision victory over her opponent. Ming fell just short of the mark in her final three matches of the day, seeing her claim a sixth-place finish.

Following Ming, Dylan Hernandez posted a 2-2 record on the day in the 124-weight class. Hernandez was seen notching the fall in 1:02 over Erica House (Missouri Valley) while recording an 11-0 tech fall victory over teammate Victoria Day (UC Patriots).

On the day, Annabelle Suto (131 bout) was seen notching a fall in 2:19 against Keela Mary (Minot State). Destiny Marquez (207 bout) worked relentlessly against No. 14 Kara Pope (Baker) to mark a 9-0 decision victory. Elise Toste (110 bout) recorded a 10-0 tech fall victory over Ella Hron (Hawkeye). Victoria Day (124 bout) notched the fall in 0:53 against Ali Anderson (Grand View). Camarie Cunningham (131 bout) notched the fall in 1:14 against Alanna Holly (Wayland Baptist). Rounding out for the Patriots, Zoey Smith notched the fall in 5:13 against Abigail Atibagos (Waldorf).

Also competing for the Patriots is Ryleigh Hayes (110 bout), Oriyana Castex (138 bout), Jaclyn Hodge (124 bout), and Elena Guerena (145 bout).

The Pats will be back in action on Friday, February 7 in Marietta, GA for a Mid-South Conference dual against No. 1 Life University. The dual is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. (EST).
