Williamsburg, KY – The third-ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team had seven different goal scorers, while
Mia Bosah made six saves in a 19-0 win over (RV) St. Thomas. It marks the Patriots ninth shutout in program history their first since April 21, 2003, as UC improves to 2-0 on the year.
Anna Lobbezoo led the way for UC with five goals and an assists, while
Florence Andrieu and
Aleyah Belton notched five points each.
Ashlee Baker dished out a team-high three assists to go along with a pair of caused turnovers.
Koral Hadac recorded five caused turnovers, five ground balls, and scooped 10 draw controls as
Madison Rupp and
Reese Kincaid combined four ground balls and a trio of caused turnovers.
Cumberlands won the first three draw controls of the match turning them into goals for Andrieu,
Morgan Tate, and Lobbezoo to give the Pats a 3-0 lead two minutes in. Both goalies stopped a free position before Belton dodged towards the cage for her first goal of the season making it 4-0. Rupp and Hadac each tallied a caused turnover as Belton notched a man-up goal to extend the lead to 5-0 with 4:53 remaining. Bosah added a pair of saves keeping UC in front 5-0.
Bosah opened the second quarter with a save, while Hadac had three caused turnovers, the final one of which led to a Lobbezoo goal making it 6-0 at the 8:32 mark. The Patriots added two more goals, while Bosah notched a pair of saves in the closing minutes of the period as Cumberlands took a 9-0 lead into half.
UC opened the third quarter with three straight draw control wins yielding a trio of goals by the Patriots, including two from Andrieu to extend the lead to 11-0. Hadac notched a caused turnover as Marisa Helston connected with Lobbezoo for a goal to make I 12-0 with 10:04 remaining in the period. Cumberlands defense continue to make it tough for St. Thomas to get quality shots, while UC tacked on two goals for a 14-0 lead.
Emma Rittman opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals, three minutes into the period. UC took advantage of a couple penalties as Lobbezoo and Tate both added man-up goals for the 18-0 lead. The Patriots defense held St. Thomas without a shot in the quarter for the 19-0 final.
Cumberlands returns to the field Friday, February 21
