Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | UC Sports Information

Patriots Utilize 10 Goal First Quarter to Improve to 3-0

Williamsburg, KY – The third ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team netted 10 first quarter goals en route to a 17-2 win over Warner Friday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, the Pats improve to 3-0 on the year, while the Royals move to 2-1.

Anna Lobbezoo led the way with five goals and six points, while Ashlee Baker notched four goals, two assists and four ground balls.  Florenc Andrieu chipped in five points as Emma Rittman notched three goals, four caused turnovers and three ground balls.  Koral Hadac scooped 11 draw controls, seven ground balls and notched four caused turnovers.  Mia Bosah and Mikayla Kimsey combined for two saves.

Rittman forced a turnover in the opening minutes of the game, while Lobbezoo connected with Andrieu for a man-up goal to put UC in front.  Hadac tallied a caused turnover which led to a Baker free position goal a minute later.  Cumberlands won the next three draw controls resulting three different Patriot players scoring to give UC the 5-0 lead with 8:15 remaining.  After UC made it 6-0, Rittman scooped a ground ball and went coast-to-coast for a goal giving Cumberlands the 7-0 lead with 5:54 remaining.  The Patriots tacked on three more goals, including Tessa Lisy first goal as a Patriot to make it a 10-0 game.

Hadac added a pair of ground balls and a caused turnovers to open the second quarter, while Baker and Rittman both put well-placed shots into the cage to extend the lead to 12-0.  Mia Bosah made a point-blank save to hold the Royals scoreless while a pair of man-up goals extended UC's lead to 14-0 at half.

The Patriots utilized the clock in the third quarter slowing down the pace, meanwhile Baker and Rittman each tallied a caused turnover while Mikayla Kimsey notched a save to keep the score 14-0 midway through the quarter. UC defense added two more caused turnovers as Baker and Lobbezoo connected for man-up goals making it 16-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

A Reese Kincaid caused turnover led to Baker connecting with Rittman for a goal to give UC the 17-0 advantage.  The Patriots continued to be methodical on the offensive end and played stellar defensive for the 17-2 final.

Cumberlands returns to the field Sunday, February 23rd, when they host tenth ranked Ave Maria.  The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with live video available here.
