Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team had 13 players record goals, including three players that netted their first goal of the season as they opened AAC play with a 23-1 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. With the win, UC improves to 7-1 on the season.
Ashlee Baker led the way for UC with five assists and seven points, while
Florence Andrieu added three goals and three assists.
Emma Rittman tallied five points, 13 draw controls, and four ground balls, while
Anna Lobbezoo and
Marisa Helsten each notched five points in the win.
Koral Hadac chipped in three caused turnovers and draw controls, while
Mikayla Kimsey made three saves in her first collegiate start.
Cumberlands took control of the game early recking havoc on the Bulldogs in the clear game. UC struck first as Baker connected with
Marisa Helsten for a goal. The Patriots netted seven unanswered goals from seven different players, over the next eight minutes to extend their lead to 8-0. As part of that run Lobbezzo found
Madison Rupp cutting in front of the cage for her first goal of the season. After the two teams traded goals, Helsten found
Savannah Reed for her first collegiate goal making it 10-1. UC added a pair of goals in the closing minutes to take a 12-1 advantage.
The Patriots notched a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter before Baker found
Sarah Linam for her second goal of the season making it 15-1 with 8:21 remaining in the first half. Kimsey notched her first save of the game and the score remained that way until the closing seconds when Helsten connected with Belton for a goal as time expired in the half to give the Patriots the 16-1 lead.
Cumberlands continue to control the possession for majority of the second half outshooting Tennessee Wesleyan 16-2 and tacking on seven goals. Six different Patriots scored in the half, including Andrieu connecting with Hadac for a goal at the end of the third quarter. Freshman
Hannah Taft also netted her first collegiate goal as she tallied a man-up goal at the 8:59 mark in the fourth quarter. Kimsey tallied a pair of saves to preserve the 23-1 final.
UC returns to the field Monday, March 17
th, when they travel to Atchison, KS when they face fifth-ranked Benedictine. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. (ET).
