Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | UC Sports Information

Patriots Drop Top-5 Road Match

Atchison, KS – The Cumberlands women's lacrosse team couldn't overcome a first half deficit as they fell to fifth-ranked Benedictine 19-10 Monday night.  With the win the Ravens improve to 11-0, while UC moves to 8-2.

Ashlee Baker led the way for UC with three goals and four points, while Marisa Helsten tallied a hat trick.  Anna Lobbezoo and Morgan Tate netted two goals apiece.  Emma Rittman scooped seven draw controls and four ground balls, while recording four caused turnovers and a pair of points.  Reese Kincaid and Koral Hadac combined for eight ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Mia Bosah made 15 saves.

Emma Rittman won the opening draw control of the game and on that possession found Marisa Helsten over the middle for a goal to make a 1-0 lead, 13 seconds into the game.  Mia Bosah made 11 saves, however, the Ravens netted 11 unanswered goals to take an 11-1 advantage at half.

UC opened the scoring in the third quarter as Lisy connected with Helsten for a goal in the opening minute of the quarter.  The two teams traded possession before Rittman dished out her second assist of the game finding Anna Lobbezoo for a goal to make it 12-4 with 10:09 remaining.  Ashlee Baker added a goal before connecting with Morgan Tate for a man-up goal to pull UC's within eight at 14-6 after the third quarter. 

The Ravens netted three straight goals to open the fourth quarter before Florence Andrieu connected with Tate for a goal.  A couple minutes later, Rittman force a turnover and scooped the ground ball as Lobbezoo netted an unassisted goal to make it 18-8.  In the closing minutes of the game, Baker intercepted a pass and scored a goal before Rittman connected with Helsten for her third goal of the night cutting the deficit to 18-10. 
 
The Patriots return to the field Wednesday, March 19th, when they travel to Ottawa, KS when they face (RV) Ottawa.  The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m. (ET) with live video available here.
