Williamsburg, KY – The Pats opened their outdoor season at home at the UC Early Spring Meet on Friday. UC compiled six event wins and one NAIA qualifying standard as well.
UC's 4x100 hit a national cut with a 41.03 first-place finish. Matthew Chavers and Daniel Dixon ran the first two legs before Cam Andrews and Donte Sol ran the remaining 200m. Sol also won the open 100m with a 10.72. Isaiah Oquendo clocked a 10.81 for second while Dixon and Aarontae Wesley finished in 10.91 and 10.92 for fourth and sixth to round out UC's top-eight finishers in the 100m.
The 5K featured a pair of Patriots earn top-three finishes. Serhii Shevchenko clocked a 15:00.41 for first overall while Ludovico Vaccari ran a 15:07.84 for third. Brandon Green earned the Pats fourth win of the day with a 15.16 in the 110 hurdles.
Cumberlands picked up a pair of wins in field events as Seth Massie won the long jump and Jack Lamey Jr. had the top javelin throw of the day. In the long jump, Massie finished with a 6.85m mark while Chavers finished with a 6.65m best for second. Nigel Steenwinkel and Sincere Irvin finished tied for fourth with marks of 6.44m to round out UC's top-eight finishers in the event. Irvin also finished fourth in the triple jump with a 12.93m mark, two places in front of his teammate Logan Stamper who recorded a 12.69m jump for sixth.
In the JT, Lamey Jr. finished with a 50.05m mark for the gold while Massie finished second in 45.81m. Austin Meacham finished fourth after throwing the javelin 40.95m.
The 4x400 recorded the only second-place finish for UC on the day. Chavers and Iloba Godspower ran the opening two legs before Sol took over for the third. Devontae Davis anchored the Pats to a 3:22.29 finish. UC's "B" squad of Noah Kincade, Kenny Wilburn, Aarontae Wesley, and Oquendo ran a 3:34.07 for third overall. Kincade was also the lone Patriot to score in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 22.50 for fifth place.
Maddox Knight podiumed in the 800m with a new PR of 1:57.52 for third. Jackson Lowe ran a 1:58.22 for fourth while Bartosz Trojniar clocked a 2:01.25 for fifth. Daniel Hoxha finished eight in 2:04.13.
The final top-three finish of the day came from Lucas Lambo whose mark of 14.95m in the shot put was good for the bronze. Dratavyn Barber finished sixth in this event behind a 12.55m throw. Lambo also posted UC's only scoring performance in the hammer throw with a 48.93m mark for fourth. Bailey Muncy and Steenwinkel rounded out UC's throwers on Friday. Muncy finished seventh in the discus with a 39.90m throw followed by Steenwinkel's mark of 39.87m for eighth.
Grayson Rahbany and Davis had solid 400m performances for the Pats, Rahbany clocked a 49.07 for fourth while Davis's 51.18 earned eighth overall. Alvaro Legaz competed as the only Patriot in the pole vault and finished fifth overall after clearing the bar at 3.20m on his first attempt.
The Patriots will be back next weekend as they travel to Montreat, NC for the Montreat College Open.
