Ottawa, KS – The fourth-ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team netted 11 unanswered goals over a two period stretch to pull away for the 19-6 win over (RV) Ottawa Wednesday afternoon. With the win, UC improves to 11-2 on the season.
Ashlee Baker led the way for the Patriots with five goals and six points in the game.
Anna Lobbezoo scooped a season-high 11 draw controls to go along with four points, while
Florence Andrieu and
Morgan Tate each tallied hat tricks in the win.
Emma Rittman scooped a team-high six ground balls, while
Koral Hadac notched four caused turnovers and a trio of ground balls.
Mia Bosah and
Mikayla Kimsey combined for eight saves in the game.
The Patriots struck first as
Mia Bosah notched a save and on the ensuing transition
Morgan Tate put a well-placed shot into the cage to make it 1-0. After the Braves evened the score
Ashlee Baker wrapped around the cage and put a shot just under the crossbar to make it 2-1 with 7:55 remaining. UC was able to tack on a pair of goals late in the quarter from
Anna Lobbezoo and Tate giving Cumberlands the 4-3 lead after the first quarter.
UC took advantage of a couple Ottawa penalties as Lobbezoo netted a man-up goal before Rittman forced a turnover and scored to extend the lead to 6-3. After the two teams traded goals,
Aleyah Belton notched a free position goal to extend the lead to 8-4. Both Bosah and
Mikayla Kimsey recorded a save as Cumberlands took an 8-5 lead into halftime.
The Patriots came out strong in the third quarter netting eight unanswered goals to extend their lead to 16-5. Baker netted two of UC's first three goals, while Lobbezoo converted a free position to making it 11-5.
Koral Hadac and
Emma Rittman forced a turnover that led to Patriot goals extending the lead tom 13-5. Kimsey added a save late in the period while Cumberlands tacked on three more goals including
Tess Lisy connecting with
Peyton Koenig for a goal to make it 16-5.
Andrieu added a goal four minutes into the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 17-5. Helsten and Baker rounded out the Patriots scoring, while Kimsey notched another save for the 19-6 final.
UC returns to the field Saturday, March 22
nd, when they close out this road trip in St. Louis, MO where they will face eighth-ranked Missouri Baptist. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. (ET).
