West Point, GA – The third-ranked Cumberlands men's lacrosse team utilized a 15-1 run that spanned three quarters to earn the 22-8 win over (RV) Point Saturday afternoon. The Patriots had 13 players record a goal in the win as UC improves to 7-2 on the season.
Will Rogers led the way for UC with a season-high seven points with three goals and four assists.
Nick Kava and
Evan Barton each tallied a hat trick, while
Maalek Wilson,
Dennis Smith, and
Mason Miller netter a pair of goals each.
Ty Grooms and
Dakota White combined to 25-33 on faceoffs with 10 ground balls, while
Jacob Ingle scooped a career-high six ground balls.
Nathan Foskey,
Jack Bichsel,
JD Cook, and
Aiden Hamilton split time in cage and combined for five saves.
Point jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter. The Patriots started to rally as
Will Rogers notched two goals and a pair of assists, in a three minute span, to put UC in front 4-3.
Mason Miller added a man-up goal, while Roger connected with
Evan Barton for a goal in the closing minute of the period to extend the lead to 6-3.
The two teams traded goals to open the second quarter before
Gabe Schwaiger forced a Point turnover and netted his second goal of the season to make it 8-4. UC won the next faceoff and Wilson put a well-placed shot to extend the lead a minute later. The Patriots added three more goals, including one from
Caden Abbott as
Jack Bichsel added a save to give Cumberlands an 12-4 lead at half.
Cumberlands continued to dominate the possession in the third quarter netting three goals in the first seven minutes of play. Barton started the scoring and it was capped off with
Johnny Simpson finding
Dennis Smith for a goal to make it 15-4. Hamilton made a pair of saves in his first action of the season as Kava added a late goal to give UC a 16-6 advantage.
Carter Barrett,
Jack Sidwall, and
Weston Pinschenat each notched a goal as part of a three-goal run to open the fourth quarter. James Hoelm netted a goal off a Rogers' assists in the closing minutes of the game for the 22-8 final.
The Patriots outshot Point 61-25 in the game and scooped 35 ground balls.
UC will return to the field Wednesday, March 26, when they host Thomas More. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. with live video available
