Williamsburg, KY – Dakota White and
Will Rogers both achieved milestones as the Patriots returned home with a 22-8 win over Thomas More, Wednesday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, UC improves to 8-2 on the season.
Will Rogers led the way for UC with six goals and three assists.
Dakota White went 20-27 on faceoffs, with 12 ground balls and two points. White's 20 faceoffs wins are the most by a Pats freshman is fourth most in a single game.
Johnathon Vanover tallied three goals and three assists, while
Nick Kava chipped in with four points.
Taylor Long notched four caused turnovers and four ground balls, as UC utilized all four goalies that combined for nine saves.
It took Cumberlands a little bit to get in their offensive rhythm as they fell behind 1-0 early. Just under seven minutes into the first quarter
Owen Hebenstreit forced a turnover and on the transition
Ty Grooms found Rogers for a goal to even the score. White won the faceoff and netted his first collegiate goal six seconds later putting UC in front. The Patriots added two more goals, including
Taylor Long's first goal of the season to make it 4-1. Vanover and Rogers each tallied a goal and an assist as UC added four more goals to make it 8-1 after the first quarter.
Evan Barton forced a turnover and failed clear to open the second quarter and on the ensuing possession Kava put a well-placed shot into the cage to make it 9-1. Rogers connected with
Dennis Smith for goal before
Ty Grooms won a faceoff and connected with Rogers for a goal to make it 11-1.
Taylor Long tallied a pair of caused turnovers, while
Ashton Clayburn added a caused turnover as Cumberlands took a 12-3 lead into the break.
UC won the opening possession of the third quarter as Vanover connected with Kava for a goal making it 13-3. After the two teams traded goals,
Caden Abbott found
Mason Miller cutting towards the cage for a man-up goal. UC added a goal before Grooms won a faceoff and worked the ball quickly to Rogers for a goal making it 17-4 with 6:05 remaining. That goal was the 100
th of Roger's career making him the fourth Patriots player to reach the century mark. UC took an 18-5 lead into the fourth quarter.
Cumberlands took advantage of a Saints penalty as Miller found Barton for a man-up goal a minute into the fourth quarter.
Nathan Foskey made six saves in the quarter, while
Zachary Swann added back-to-back goals, including one from
Johnny Simpson making it 21-7. The Patriots final goal came from Carter Barter off an assist from Kava for the 22-8 final.
The Patriots return to the field Saturday, April 5, when they fifth-ranked Reinhardt in a critical AAC showdown. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with live video available
