Fayette, MO – The Patriots' sprinters had a phenomenal day at the CMU Invite, hitting six national standards and breaking a pair of program records. Four of the six standards were A cuts, and three of the performances were top-five marks in the NAIA this season. UC also had runners in the 800m race in North Carlonia to finish their weekend at the Raleigh Relays.
Jaysaun Smith had an incredible outdoor debut, clocking a 46.42 400m to break the school record and win the event in Missouri. This time is also the fastest in the NAIA this season. Roderick Soto also ran the 400m, clocking a 49.00 for seventh.
The 200m saw a pair of A standards that rank top-five in the NAIA. Cam Andrews won the race with a 20.53 finish while Travion Dotson was right behind his teammate with a 20.57. Both times shattered the previous school record of 20.97 set back in 2019. Soto ran a 21.99 for 18th in the 200m as well.
Andrews was the top Patriot finisher in the 100m, crossing the finish line in 10.43 for fifth overall and a B standard. Iloba Godspower finished sixth with a B standard time of 10.45. Eddie Van Wyk followed with a 10.63 time for 13th while Matthew Chavers and Daniel Dixon ran 10.66 and 10.69 for 14th and 17th, respectively. Chavers also competed in the long jump, finishing 11th with a 6.61m leap.
The 4x100 also hit an A standard, combining for a 40.34 finish. Godspower, Andrews, Van Wyk, and Dixon combined for the first-place finish. This is the second fastest time in the NAIA this season, only behind a 40.33 finish that UC put together last week.
The Pats rounded out the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x400. Godspower, Soto, Van Wyk, and Dixon combined for a 3:21.89 finish.
In Raleigh, Victor Carpeggiani led the way with a 1:52.84 800m performance for 85th. Ryan Ehrler followed with a 1:53.95 finish while Max Young crossed the finish line in 1:57.68.
Cumberlands will be back next week as they travel to Knoxville, TN for the 2025 Tennessee Invite.
