Patriots Falls to Top-Ranked SCAD

Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked Patriots couldn't overcome a second half surge as they fell to top-ranked SCAD 18-11, Saturday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win the Bees improve to 6-0 overall, while the Patriots move to 6-1 on the season.

Anna Lobbezoo and Aleyah Belton both notched hat tricks on the day and combined for six saves.  Emma Rittman tallied two goals, nine draw controls and eight ground balls in the game.  Rittman has now surpassed 400 career draw controls.  Koral Hadac added a pair of caused turnovers to go along with three ground balls.

After SCAD jumped out early, Rittman put a well-placed shot into the cage to tie the score.  The Bees went on a 4-1 run, over the next eight minutes, before Morgan Tate converted a free position to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 2:22 remaining.  Mia Bosah made a pair of saves before Florence Andrieu connected with Helsten for a goal cut the deficit to 5-4 after the first quarter.

The opening minutes of the second quarter was a defensive battle until the two teams traded goals making it 6-5 SCAD with 8:20 remaining.  UC won the next two draw controls and converted them into goals from Belton and Rittman to put the Patriots in front 7-6.  A minute later, Lobbezoo put a well-placed shot into the cage for a goal extending the lead to 8-6.  SCAD netted four goals over the closing minutes of the quarter to take an 10-8 lead into half.

Both defenses continue to apply pressure, keeping the offensive off balanced in the third quarter.  Belton and Ashlee Baker both netted goals for Cumberlands in the period, however, the Bees extended their lead to 13-10.  SCAD outscored UC 5-1 in the fourth quarter for the 18-11 final.

UC returns to the field Monday, March 10th, when they host #4 Lawrence Tech.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
