Patriots Close Out Regular Season With Road Win

Black Mountain, NC – The fourth-ranked Cumberlands women's lacrosse team netted 20 unanswered goals over the first three quarters to earn the 24-2 road win over Montreat Friday night at Palliam Stadium.  With the win, UC closes out the regular season with a 13-3 record and 4-1 in AAC play.

Ashlee Baker led the way for Cumberlands with three goals, six assists and a new career-high nine points.  Florence Andrieu and Emma Rittman each tallied five points, while Morgan Tate netted four goals.  Rittman added draw controls and three caused turnovers, while Koral Hadac notched four draw controls and three caused turnovers.  Peyton Koenig scooped a team-high and career-best five ground balls.

Cumberlands dominated the possession as Rittman won the opening draw and scored 12 seconds later.  UC added three goals from three different players to make it a 4-0 with 12:50 remaining.  Baker recorded a goal and two assists as part of a four goal run extending the lead to 8-0.  Aleyah Belton, Koenig, and Tess Lisy all picked up assists as the Patriots took the 11-0 advantage.

UC first three goals of the second quarter were assisted, including two from Baker and one from Andrieu.  Marisa Helsten tallied a trio of caused turnovers before Lisy scored a goal before finding Tate for the finish making it a 17-0 lead at the break.

Elizabeth Crittenden netted her first collegiate goal to open the third quarter.  Koral Hadac and Anna Lobbezoo each tallied caused turnovers while Mia Bosah made a save to keep the Cavaliers off the board. Koenig and Savannah Reed tallied back-to-back goals making it a 20-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

UC outscored Montreat 4-1 in the fourth quarter with the final goal coming from Hadac for the 24-2 final.

The Patriots earned the second-seed in the AAC Tournament and will face the winner of third-seed Gerogetown and sixth-seed Montreat on Friday, April 18th at 2 p.m.
