Patriots Fall in Double Overtime to #5 Reinhardt

Waleska, GA – In a game that saw four lead changes and ten ties, the fourth-ranked Patriots women's lacrosse team fell in double overtime to fifth-ranked Reinhardt 15-14, Saturday afternoon.  After the game UC moves to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in AAC play.

Leading the way for the Patriots was Ashlee Baker, who tallied four goals and seven points in the win. Aleyah Belton netted four goals and on four shots, while Florence Andrieu chipped in three points.  Emma Rittman scooped 10 draw controls, four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Belton and Koral Hadac combined for five caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Mia Bosah made 11 saves in the game.

Reinhardt jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Reese Kincaid forced a turnover and on the ensuing transition Ashlee Baker connected with Aleyah Belton for a goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.  A minute later, Baker connected with Emma Rittman for a man-up goal to even the score at 2-2.  Off a free position, Baker found a cutting Belton to put UC in front 3-2 with 9:17 remaining in the first quarter.  After an Eagles goal, Cumberlands notched goals from Rittman and Helsten to take a 5-3 advantage.  Baker added a late goal off an assist from Helsten as UC took a 6-5 lead after the opening quarter.

Cumberlands took advantage of a penalty as Belton notched a man-up free position goal extending their lead to 7-5.  Reinhardt tied the game before Rittman won a draw control and Belton scored on that possession to put UC back in front.  The game was tied twice more before Baker converted a free position giving the Patriots a 10-9 advantage, while Bosah made a save in the closing seconds prior to halftime.

UC notched four caused turnovers, while Bosah tallied a save in the first ten minutes of the third quarter, while the Eagles netted two goals to take an 11-10 lead.  The Patriots evened the score later in the period as Anna Lobbezoo connected with Baker for a goal with 2:33 remaining.  Rittman won the next draw control and on that possession Andrieu found Morgan Tate for a goal to give UC a 12-11 edge heading into the fourth quarter.

Sarah Linam and Belton both notched caused turnovers in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, while Andrieu put a well-placed shot to make it 13-12 with 6:56 remaining.  Reinhardt retook the lead 14-13 with 2:43 left. Rittman  won the next draw control and Baker wrapped around the crease and netted the equalizer with 1:55 remaining.  Bosah added a save in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime.

In overtime, Bosah made a save, while Lobbezoo tallied a caused turnover and ground ball to give the Patriots possession.  UC added pair of shots, however, couldn't convert them as the game went into double overtime.

Reinhardt started with possession in the second overtime and despite Bosah making a pair of saves, Lawna Henry netted the game winning goal with 2:21 remaining for the 15-14 final.
 
Cumberlands return to the field Wednesday, April 9, when they return home to face (RV) Georgetown.  This game will be UC's Morgan's Message game with the game slated to begin at 6 p.m.
