Baker Notched Career High as Patriots Close Out Home Slate with a Win

Williamsburg, KY – The fourth-ranked UC women's lacrosse team had five players with at least three goals, while Ashlee Baker notched a career-high eight points in the 20-10 win over (RV) Georgetown Wednesday night.  With the win, the Patriots improve to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in AAC play, while the Tigers move to 8-7 and 3-2.

Baker recorded four goals and four assists for a new career-high to go along with a trio of caused turnovers.  Marisa Helsten added five goals, while Emma Rittman and Morgan Tate tallied four points apiece.  Rittman also scooped 11 draw controls, three ground balls, and notched five caused turnovers.  Koral Hadac added four caused turnovers, six ground balls, and five draw controls in the win.

Tate got the scoring started with a pair of goals assisted by Baker and Rittman to make it 2-0, three minutes into the game.  The teams traded goals, before Bosah made a save and  on the ensuing transition Anna Lobbezoo netted her first of three goals to make it a 4-1 advantage with 5:03 remaining.  After Rittman forced a Tigers turnover, Florence Andrieu connected with Baker for the goal to make it 9-1.  Lobbezoo added a goal in the closing seconds making it a 6-2.

After the teams traded goals in the opening minutes of the second quarter, Andrieu connected with Baker for a goal to give UC the 8-4 lead.  Bosah notched a save while Helsten and Hadac both tallied caused turnovers as Peyton Koenig added a goal to give Cumberlands the 9-5 edge at the break.

Tate connected with Helsten for a man-up goal before netting her third goal of the game to make it 11-6 with 11:03 remaining in the third quarter. UC closed out the period with four unanswered goals, including three from Helsten, while Baker picked up a goal and an assist on the run.  The Patriots defense forced three failed clears while Hadac and Madison Rupp combined for three caused turnovers as UC took a 15-7 lead.

The Patriots notched back-to back goals from Helsten and Rittman just over a minute into the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 17-7.  Georgetown scored twice before Lobbezoo and Rittman combined for UC's final three goals and the 20-10 final.

Cumberlands returns to the field Friday, April 11, when they travel to Montreat, NC to take on the Cavaliers.  The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
