Steenwinkel Earns All-American in Decathlon on Day Two of Championships

Marion, IN – UC's men came away with one All-American and multiple other qualifying performances on day two of the NAIA Outdoor T&F Championships.
 
Nigel Steenwinkel was the Pats top finisher in the decathlon, finishing fourth overall after scoring 6595 points. He finished second in the 110m hurdles with a 15.00 finish and followed with a 35.07m discus throw for third to highlight his final five event performances. Seth Massie also completed the decathlon, earning tenth overall after scoring 6217 points. Massie finished second in the javelin with a 48.64m throw and fifth in the discus after a 34.90m best.
 
UC's 4x400 came in as the top ranked team in the country and solidified their spot in the finals with a 3:11.84 finish for first place on the day. Iloba Godspower ran the opening leg before passing the baton to Roderick Soto. Kerrington Eubanks took over for the third leg before Jaysaun Smith handled the anchor leg, overtaking the leader in the final 20 meters for the win. Smith and Soto also ran in the open 400m where they clocked times of 48.18 and 48.88 for 11th ad 16th.
 
Travion Dotson earned the final qualifying spot in the 100m finals after a 10.48 performance in the prelims. Cam Andrews also ran the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in 10.58 for 17th after coming in seeded 29th.
 
The 5K racewalk saw Lucien Beardsley as the only Patriot finisher. The freshman crossed the finish line in 23:59.93 for tenth overall.
 
Cumberlands' 4x800 missed All-American honors by just two seconds after recording a 7:38.12 finish in the finals for ninth. Hauke Trost and Maddox Knight ran the opening two legs before Max Young took over for the third. Ryan Ehrler grabbed the baton for the final two laps to anchor the Pats to ninth.
 
Cumberlands sit in 5th place in the team standings with 15 points. They will look to move up the standings tomorrow as they have a chance to score in five finals. For tomorrow's livestream click here.
