Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots took a commanding lead after the opening day of the 2024 Mid-South Conference Outdoor T&F Championships on Sunday. UC tallied 105 points through just eight events to ahead second place by over than 40. UC took home the gold in three events and won one on the track as well.
The hammer throw saw
Lucas Lambo take first place behind a 51.00m mark for his second straight conference outdoor title in this event.
Jack Lamey Jr. finished sixth with a 41.18m toss while
Bailey Muncy was the final Patriot scorer with a 39.98m throw for seventh.
Lamey then took the win in the javelin throw with a 56.55m best mark followed by
Alvaro Legaz who placed second with a 52.55m toss.
Seth Massie placed fourth behind a 51.32m throw while
Austin Meacham and
Nigel Steenwinkel finished sixth and eighth with 43.16m and 38.76m performances.
Massie led UC with a win in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.41m. Steenwinkel followed with a second-place mark of 4.00m.
The final win for UC came in the final race of the day as
Cole Bennett won the 5K racewalk with a 21:44.94 finish for a dominant victory.
Lucien Beardsley placed second overall for All-Conference honors as well, crossing the finish line in 25:04.97.
Bartosz Trojniar placed second overall in the 3K steeplechase with a 9:25.81 followed by
Daniel Hoxha who clocked a 9:46.01 for fourth. UC also finished second in the 4x800 relay where
Reed Richardson,
Jackson Lowe,
Caleb Rigney, and
Ishak Mekideche combined for a 7:59.25 finish for the silver and second-team all-conference honors.
The long jump was the final event that saw a Patriot scorer on Sunday as
Matthew Chavers leaped 6.71m for fifth.
Sincere Irvin recorded a 6.46m jump for seventh to score as well.
UC dominated the 100m prelims, earning six of the eight spots in the final tomorrow.
Travion Dotson posted the second fastest qualifying time with a 10.31 A standard performance while
Cam Andrews and
Iloba Godspower went 10.50 and 10.58 for third and fourth. Chavers followed with a 10.61 for fifth while
Donte Sol and
Eddie Van Wyk finished sixth and eighth with times of 10.65 and 10.68.
Andrews also earned a spot in the 200m finals tomorrow with a 21.32 time, the second fastest of the day.
Roderick Soto was the only other Patriot to make the finals, running a 21.79 for fifth.
Cumberlands sit in first place with 105 points while Lindsey Wilson is in second with 62. Campbellsville round out the top three after scoring 46 points on day one.
The championships will conclude tomorrow with running events starting at 11 AM and field events at 10 AM.
