Williamsburg, KY – The Patriots kicked off the 2025-26 campaign with multiple strong performances against top competition setter Savanah Jolly and goalie Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo have been named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Savanah Jolly earned athlete of the week honors after an incredible performance at the Onset Tournament. Jolly tallied 156 assists (11.14 a/s), 39 digs, and 14 kills over UC's four games. The Louisville, KY native opened the week with 38 assists, 18 digs, and five kills in the five set win over (RV) Indiana Tech. Jolly notched a career-best 45 assists twice on the week, while adding a career-high seven kills in the win over Saint Francis. The junior sprayed the ball around the court leading the Patriots offense that posted 192 kills and a .272 hitting percentage.
Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo earned athlete of the week honors after making six saves and posting a clean sheet on the opening weekend. He opened the week with a pair of saves in Cumberlands season-opener against Grace. Izquierdo Cuervo followed that up with four saves, including three in the second half as the Patriots posted the 1-0 win over 11
th-ranked Bethel. It marked the first clean sheet of the season for Izquierdo Cuervo.
