Williamsburg, KY - The 20th-ranked Cumberlands Volleyball team wasted no time asserting control Thursday night, cruising past Boyce College in straight sets (25-9, 25-10, 25-17) at the UC Volleyball Gymnasium. The win pushes the Patriots to 12-0 on the season and marks their seventh consecutive sweep.
UC's offense was sharp from start to finish, hitting .475 as a team while holding the Bulldogs to a -.097 clip. Sara Zampedri led all players with nine kills on a blistering .692 hitting percentage, while Kara Gipson and Brynnley Bryant each tallied eight and seven kills, respectively. Elaina Fischer added five kills on .833 hitting, and Aleksandra Augustyniak chipped in four kills.
Setter Savanah Jolly once again paced the attack with 35 assists, spreading the offense to multiple hitters. Defensively, Alana Shiery and Zampedri each recorded three blocks, while Davey Slaughter notched six digs.
The Patriots jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the opening set and never looked back, stringing together runs behind strong serving and quick kills in the middle to close it out 25-9.
The second set saw more of the same as UC built an early cushion and used three straight kills from Gipson and Zampedri to cap a 25-10 win. Boyce managed to hang around longer in the third, pulling within 14-11, before the Patriots responded with an 8-2 surge highlighted by Fischer and Bryant to regain control. Cumberlands sealed the sweep on a kill from Faith Franklin, taking the set 25-17 and the match in dominant fashion.
