Dolobaipu, McVeigh, and Kopunovic Lead #4 Patriots Past Georgetown 3-0

Georgetown, Ky. – The University of the Cumberlands #4 Men's Soccer team continued Mid-South Conference play on the road Wednesday evening, defeating Georgetown 3-0 behind a balanced offensive attack and another strong defensive performance.

The Patriots broke through in the 40th minute when junior Samuel Dolobaipu netted his fourth goal of the season to give UC the 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Out of the break, Cumberlands kept the pressure on. In the 59th minute, sophomore Conor McVeigh scored his first collegiate goal, doubling the Patriots' lead to 2-0. UC capped the scoring in the 86th minute as sophomore Vanja Kopunovic tallied his first goal as a Patriot off a feed from Emil Skursch, sealing the 3-0 result.

It was a night of firsts, with both McVeigh and Kopunovic opening their scoring accounts for the Patriots while Dolobaipu continued his strong form up top.

Defensively, the Patriots were solid once again. Keeper Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo recorded four saves to post his third shutout of the season, while the back line held Georgetown to just eight total shots.

UC finished the match with an 18-8 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal, while also earning four corner kicks.

With the win, the Patriots improve to 2-0 in MSC play and 5-2-2 overall, while extending their shutout streak to back-to-back conference matches.
