Izquierdo Earns Second Mid-South Defensive Honor of the Season

9/29/2025 2:39:00 PM

Williamsburg, KY – After posting a shutout and averaging four saves per game across a pair of road matches, University of the Cumberlands senior goalkeeper Javiero Izquierdo Cuervo has been named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.

Izquierdo played all 180 minutes between the posts this past week, tallying eight saves while recording a 1.00 goals-against average. His efforts helped UC notch a conference win over Georgetown and battle perennial power Rio Grande.

In Monday's 3-0 victory at Georgetown, Izquierdo turned aside all four shots he faced to earn the clean sheet, the sixth of his Patriot career. He followed that with another strong outing on Friday at RV Rio Grande, making four saves to keep the Patriots within reach against one of the top-ranked attacks in the NAIA.

Izquierdo earns the conference honor for the second time this season and the fifth of his Patriots career.

The Patriots return home to Williamsburg for a top-20 clash, hosting #17 Georgia Gwinnett College on Wednesday, October 1, at 7 p.m.
