Kokomo, IN – The No. 20 Cumberlands Volleyball team extended its unbeaten streak with a dominant Saturday at the IU Kokomo Quad Tournament, recording its fifth and sixth consecutive sweeps. UC opened the day by rolling past Bryan 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-12) before cruising to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-13) victory over Siena Heights University. The Patriots remain unbeaten at 11-0 this season.
Brynnley Bryant and Sara Zampedri powered the offense, combining for 44 kills and 29 digs on the day. Bryant recorded 25 kills, 18 digs, and two aces, while Zampedri added 19 kills and 11 digs. Alana Shiery and Kara Gipson chipped in 15 and 16 kills, respectively, both hitting over .400 across the two matches. Setter Savanah Jolly recorded 79 assists and added six kills, while Davey Slaughter highlighted the back row with 23 digs. Overall, UC tallied 92 kills, 20 service aces, and 12 blocks across the two sweeps.
#20 UC Dominates Bryan in Morning Sweep
The Patriots opened the day firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .453 as a team in the sweep over Bryan College. Bryant led the way with 11 kills on a .429 clip, while Shiery posted 10 kills and no errors for a .714 hitting percentage. Gipson added nine kills and a pair of blocks, while Zampedri contributed nine kills and 11 digs.
Jolly directed the attack with 40 assists and added two aces, while Slaughter collected 14 digs. Freshmen Rayne Manning and Jayce Braden provided sparks off the bench with three and four kills, respectively. UC controlled all three sets from the outset, jumping out to early leads and never looking back in the 25-8, 25-11, 25-12 win.
#20 Patriots Cruise Past Siena Heights
UC carried its momentum into the second match, hitting .310 as a team in a sweep of Siena Heights. Bryant tallied a match-high 14 kills and 12 digs, while Zampedri posted 10 kills and added two aces. Gipson was efficient in the middle with seven kills on a .462 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks.
Jolly dished out 36 assists and added three kills, while Slaughter and Autiana Wilson combined for 17 digs. UC used fast starts in each set, stringing together multiple runs to take control early before closing out each frame 25-13. The Patriots' balanced attack and strong defense held Siena Heights to a .000 hitting percentage for the match.
The Patriots return home on Thursday September 11th to face Boyce College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET in the UC Volleyball Gym.
