Barbourville, KY – The Cumberlands volleyball team extend their win streak to ten straight after posting a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-10) sweep over Union Commonwealth Saturday afternoon. With the win, UC improves to 25-4 overall and 9-0 in MSC play.
Sara Zampedri paced the way for Cumberlands with 17 kills and six digs.
Alana Shiery added 10 kills to go along with eight blocks, while
Faith Franklin added five kills.
Savanah Jolly notched 32 assists, while
Brynnley Bryant tallied a team-high 16 digs.
The Patriots jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first set as Zampedri and Shiery combined for six kills. The two teams traded points before a kill from Bryant sparked an eight-point run making it 18-4. Later in the set Zampedri tallied two kills and a block for Cumberlands final three points as UC took the set 25-13.
Franklin opened the second set with a kill, however, Union Commonwealth took an 8-5 lead. UC responded with a five-point run that included an ace from
Kaytlynn Collier to retake the lead at 10-8. Cumberlands utilized runs of four and seven points to extend their lead to 23-13. A few plays later
Elaina Fischer notched a kill to clinch the set 25-15 and give UC the 2-0 lead.
Shiery and Zampedri combined for two blocks as the Pats took a 3-0 lead in the third set. The Patriots went on a 12-0 run that saw Shiery and
Zuzanna Wolszewska combined for a pair of blocks to make it 17-4. After the two teams traded points, UC tallied the four points of the matched capped off with a kill from
Faith Pollard to clinch the set 25-10 and the match 25-10.
Cumberlands returns to the court Tuesday, October 27
th, when they travel to Lebanon, TN to face Cumberland. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
