Williamsburg, KY – As Cumberlands winter sports begin their postseason runs, while spring sports are off to a fast start dominant performances from catcher Grace Ross and wrestler Weston Melvin led to them being named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday. 
 
Grace Ross notched athlete of the week honors after an impressive debut.  The Grad Student went 14-25 for a .560 average with 11 RBI and five extra base hits over seven games.  Ross notched a solo homer in her first at-bat as a Patriot.  She followed that up recording at least one hit and an RBI in each of UC's game on the week.  Ross notched a pair of RBI's against both Midway and UNOH as UC improved to 3-0.  During the Patriot Classic, Ross went 4-4 with three RBI against the Racers and capped off the week going 3-4 with three runs scored against Midway to cap off the week.  On the week she scored seven runs and tallied three doubles and a pair of stolen bases. 
 
Weston Melvin earned athlete of the week honors after capturing a conference title.  Melvin recorded a 2-0 record with a pair of ranked wins.  He opened the conference tournament with an 8-1 decision over #21 Anthony Pyron of Cumberland.  Melvin tallied a takedown in both the first and third periods as he reached the finals.  In the championship match of the 174 lbs. division, Melvin squared off with #6 Shadrick Sloane.  The senior took a 1-0 lead in the second period.  After the match was tied, Melvin notched a takedown with 10 seconds remaining in the match to earn the 4-1 decision and clinch the conference title.  His performance helped the Patriots capture their second straight MSC Tournament title.
