Bowling Green, KY – For the second time in his career, Gabriele Solda was named Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week following a standout performance at the ITA National Indoor Tournament, where he helped lead the Patriots to a 2–1 weekend against nationally ranked opponents.
The Camino, Italy native competed at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles, finishing the weekend with a 2–1 singles record and a 2–1 mark in doubles. He opened the tournament with a straight-set singles victory over Holy Cross' Matthew Jezyk, winning 6–3, 6–2, while also teaming with Darius Kuster for a 6–2 win at the top doubles position.
His most impactful performance came in Cumberlands' 4–2 victory over No. 5 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders, where Solda delivered a clutch three-set win at No. 3 singles (6–1, 3–6, 6–4) against Mateo Larrea to help secure the team result. Earlier in the match, Solda and Kuster set the tone in doubles with a 6–4 victory at No. 1.
Across the three matches, Solda consistently competed at the top of the lineup and came through in key moments, playing a major role in the Patriots' success against elite competition. His efforts helped Cumberlands earn wins over Holy Cross and Lindsey Wilson while facing one of the nation's toughest schedules at the national tournament.
This is his second honor in his career and the second from a Patriot this season.
Solda and the Patriots are back on the courts on Saturday, February 21, where they are set to travel to Lawrenceville, GA to compete in the Grizzly Invitational, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett. Their first match is set to begin at 9:00 AM against SCAD-Savannah.
