Three Patriots Netted Double Figures Against Tigers

Campbellsville, KY – The #21 Cumberlands women's basketball team opened the game on a 12-0 run and battled back from an 11-point second half deficit however it wasn't enough as they fell to #5 Campbellsville 74-71 Thursday night.

Zaram Fredricks led the way for UC with 10 points and a game-high 18 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.  The senior also becomes just the fourth Patriot player in program history to grab 300+ rebounds in a season.  Joy Kendrick netted a team-high 19 points and six assists, while Lakin Burke chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. 

The two teams traded possession before Lakin Burke connects with Amy Thompson and Darcie Anderson for three pointers to put UC in front 6-0, two minutes into the game.  Cumberlands (17-9, 2-8 MSC) continued their strong start limiting the Tigers, while Burke and Jaydyn Carrico each tallied three points, extending the lead to 12-0.  After trading baskets, Joy Kendrick notched a jumper and an assist as part of 6-0 run to extend the lead to 20-5 with 4:00 remaining.  Campbellsville went on a 13-6 run to close out the period, however, UC notched a 26-18 advantage.

Both teams came out with strong defensive efforts before Kendrick connected with Thompson for jumper making it 28-18. The two teams traded baskets over the next few minutes until Zaram Fredricks found Kendrick at the top of the key for a three-pointer extending UC's lead to 37-30 midway through the quarter.  Fredricks added a basket and a block as Cumberlands continued their strong effort on both ends of the floor.  UC fended off a late Tigers run to take a 41-40 lead into the break.   

Campbellsville (21-5; 6-4 MSC) opened the third quarter on a 16-2 run, before Kendrick converted a layup to cut the deficit to 56-45 with 4:20 remaining.  Burke and Kendrick both converted three-point plays to bring the Patriots within three at 56-53 with 2:20 remaining.  Strong defense kept the Patriots within striking distance as the trailed 60-54 heading into the fourth quarter.

The two teams traded points to open the fourth quarter before a Burke steal and layup sparked an 8-0 run, as Cumberlands cut the deficit to 65-64 with 5:52 remaining.  The Patriots held Campbellsville scoreless over the next several minutes as Fredricks grabbed her 16th rebound of the contest. The two teams traded baskets as Carrico connected with a floater to stay within one point 67-66 with 2:09 left. A minute later, Fredricks grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds before Kendrick drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 72-71 with 31 seconds remaining.  After Campbellsville hit a pair of free throws to extend their lead to three and in the closing seconds Cumberlands three-pointer was just off the mark for the 74-71 final.
 
 Cumberlands will return to action on Saturday, February 21st, as they return home for their regular season finale against #13 Lindsey Wilson. The Patriots will honor their 2026 seniors before the game as tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
