#2 Patriots Pull Away in Second Half to Remain Unbeaten

Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team netted the final 11 goals of the game as the Patriots notched a 19-4 win over (RV) Marian Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, UC improves to 6-0 on the year, while the Knights move to 1-1.
 
Anna Lobbezoo led the way for Cumberlands with eight points, including five assists, along with five draw controls.  Allison Joines and Emma Rittman notched four points apiece, while Ashlee Baker Christina Carter, and Lenora DeVries each tallied a hat trick.  Carter also scooped four ground balls and four draw controls in the game while Mikayla Kimsey notched six saves in the win.

The Patriots set the tone early as Rittman notched the first two draw controls of the game with goals from Rittman and Lobbezoo put UC in front 2-0 24 seconds in.  Two minutes later, Baker put a well-placed shot into the cage for a man-down goal making it 3-0.  Cumberlands defense notched a trio of caused turnovers, while Kimsey added a save to keep UC in front 3-0 after the first quarter.

Cumberlands extended their lead on the opening possession of the second quarter as Baker made a strong roll towards the cage for a goal.  UC took advantage of a pair of Knights' penalty as Carter netted back-to-back man-up goals making it 6-1 midway through the second quarter.  Lobbezoo added a pair of late goals as the Pats took an 8-3 lead into the break.

Marian pulled within four at 8-4, however, UC responded with DeVries leading the charge netting three straight goals to make it 11-4 with 6:57 remaining.  Friel added a goal and two assists, while Kimsey notched a pair of saves in the period giving Cumberlands the 14-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Kimsey notched a pair of saves to open the fourth quarter, while UC controlled the possession for majority of the period.  The Patriots outshot the Knights 9-2 in the quarter tallying five goals, including a pair from Rittman and Joines for the 19-4 final.
