Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | UC Sports Information

Seven Goal First Quarter Propels #2 Patriots to Top-10 Win

Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked UC women's lacrosse team opened the game with seven straight goals en route to 19-8 win over #8 Indiana Tech Monday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, UC improves to 7-0 on the year, while the Warriors move to 0-1.

Allison Joines leads the way for the Patriots with three goals and three assists in the game, while Emma Rittman, Anna Lobbezoo, and Ashlee Baker notched five points apiece.  Christina Carter and Kaitlyn Friel each tallied hat tricks.  Rittman also added nine draw controls and five ground balls, while Madison Rupp  scooped a career-high six ground balls in the game.  Koral Hadac added four caused turnovers as Mikayla Kimsey closed out the day with five saves.

Lenora Devries forced a turnover and notched a pair of draw controls leading to three straight UC goals to give them the early lead.  Rittman scooped the next draw control as Baker connected with Friel for a goal making it a 4-0 lead with 11:28 remaining.  UC continued to control the possession as Lobbezoo notched a goal and an assist as part of a three-goal run giving the Pats a 7-0 lead.

Indiana Tech netted a goal on the first possession of the second quarter, before Carter notched two goals and an assist, in a three-minute span, giving Cumberlands the 10-1 advantage. Kimsey notched a save and a caused turnover leading to Joines finding a cutting Tess Lisy for a goal.  The Warriors tallied three unanswered goals to close out the half as UC took an 11-4 lead into the break.

The Patriots notched four of the first five goals of the third quarter, as Joines notched two goals and an assist, extending the lead to 15-5. Over the next few minutes, Kimsey tallied a pair of saves, while Grace Oberst tallied a caused turnover.  Rittman added a late goal to give UC a 16-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Indiana Tech tallied two of the first three goals of the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 17-8 with 12:20 remaining.  The Patriots picked up the defensive pressure tallying five caused turnovers in the quarter, while Baker added a goal and an assist to Devries for the 19-8 final.

Cumberlands returns to the field Saturday, March 7th, when they host University of Health and Sciences.  That game is set for 6 p.m. with live video available here.
