UC Leads MSC Championship After Day 1; Hoare Breaks Conference Record

Danville, KY -  The Patriots women's swimming & diving team captured a trio of conference titles and nine all-conference performances to lead the Mid-South Conference Swimming & Diving Championships after the first of competition Thursday night at Centre College.  Cumberlands tallied 299 points to soar atop the team standings.

Highlighting the Patriots performance was Bella Hoare, who opened finals clocking a 4:57.82 to win the 500 free.  That time broke Mendy de Rooi's school and conference record that was set in 2020 and it's the fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Teammate Juliana Lopez Morales clocked a 5:03.40 to finish runner-up with the third fastest time in the NAIA.  Mara Ellerkamp placed fourth going 5:18.44, while Madeline Barbee (5:23.94) and Addison Ringwald (5:35.78) also competed in the finals.

UC swept the podium in the 200 IM with Helena Jarosz leading the way.  The freshman went a season-best time of 2:07.73 to capture the conference title.  Alicja Sedlak earned second place after touching  the wall in 2:08.86, while Megan Schoenlein went 2:09.42 to finish third.  Moa Nyblom went two seconds fast in finals to finish fifth.

Cumberlands final win of the night came in the 400 medley relay.  Sarah Zoellner, Schoenlein, Hoare, and Takuseviciute teamed up to clock a 3:51.23.  The Patriots also notched a third place finish in the 200 free relay finishing in 1:39.53.

The Patriots notched a pair of all-conference performers on one-meter diving.  Morgan Schraudner hit the NAIA A standard scoring a 203.80 to post a runner-up finish, while Alexis Cole captured third team all-conference honors tallying 170.05.

A trio of UC swimmers qualified for the finals of the 50 free as Celin Ullern touched the wall in 24.49 to place fourth.  Takuseviciute went 24.71 to place sixth, while Victoria Niska's time of 24.97 was eighth. 

Cumberlands returns to the water Friday, February 6th, for day two of the Mid-South Conference Championships.  Prelims are set for 11 a.m. with finals beginning at 7 p.m.
