Bowling Green, KY – The University of the Cumberlands Men's Bowling team split its matches on day one of the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday, finishing the day with a 1-1 record in bracket play.
The Mid-South Conference implemented the Mega Match format this year to mirror the NAIA National Championships. The first set consists of the total number of pins from five bowlers in a traditional game. Set two is total pinfall in five Baker team games, and the third set, if necessary, is a best-of-seven Baker match.
The No. 8 seeded Patriots opened the tournament with a 2-0 victory over No. 9 seed Union Commonwealth. UC took the opening set 1027-868 before securing the match with a 946-847 win in set two.
Cumberlands advanced to the quarterfinals to face top-seeded Cumberland University but came up short, falling 0-2. The Patriots dropped the first set 1074-925 before Cumberland closed out the match with a 1002-877 victory in the second set.
The Patriots will continue play tomorrow morning in the elimination bracket, taking on No. 10 seed Brescia University at 9 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. CT.
