Patriots Extend Lead Heading Into Final Day of MSC Championships

Danville, KY – The Cumberlands women's swimming & diving team notched five wins and 11 all-conference performances to remain atop the team standings after two days of competition at the Mid-South Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, Friday night.  The Patriots have score 656 points, while Bella Hoare broke her second meet record.

Hoare continued her strong championship as she clocked a 4:27.03 to win the 400 IM and post the second fastest time in the NAIA this season. Teammates Alicja Sedlak went a season-best time of 4:36.14, which is ranked ninth in the NAIA, while Helena Jarosz touched the wall in 4:37.09 to complete the podium sweep. 

Cumberlands notched a one-two finish in both the 200 free and the 100 breast.  Ugne Takuseviciute clocked a winning time of 1:54.00 to take first in the 200 free, while Juliana Lopez Morales went 1:56.55 to earn a runner-up finish.  Mara Ellerkamp placed fifth after clocking a 2:00.13. 

The Patriots had five swimmers in the A final of the 100 breaststroke led by Megan Schoenlein, who notched a winning time of 1:04.83.  That time is the third fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Kathryn Harrison posted the fifth fastest time in the NAIA as she touched the wall in 1:04.94 to place second.  Lauren Cox and Nyblom tied for fifth place after they both went 1:05.74, while Celin Ullern clocked a 1:06.91.

Sarah Zoellner captured UC's final individual win of the day as she won the 100 fly with a time of 55.49.  That is the third fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Bailey Amerman edged out Filippa Malmstrom 59.28 to 58.56 to win the consolation final.

Morgan Schraudner recorded a season-best score of 216.50 to hit the NAIA A cut on three meter board and place second.  Ella Parke scored a 184.85.

UC had a trio of swimmers in the finals of the 100 back as Bailey Amerman edged out Addison Ringwald by 0.03 seconds for fifth place, clocking a 1:00.19 and 1:00.22, respectively.  Victoria Niska went 1:00.44 to place seventh, while Madeline Barbee won the consolation final hitting the wall in 1:01.06.

In the final event of the night, the 800 free relay, Hoare, Lopez Morales, Jarosz, and Takuseviciute teamed up to clock a 7:44.71 for the win.

Cumberlands returns to the water Saturday, February 7th, for the final day of competition at the Mid-South Conference Championships.  Prelims are set for 11 a.m. with finals beginning at 6:30 p.m.
