Williamsburg, KY – As Cumberlands winter sports begin their postseason runs, dominant performances from swimmers Sarah Zoellner and Alexander Poulsen led to them being named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.  Both of these athletes captured Swimmer of the Year honors, while helping UC take home the team title.
 
Sarah Zoellner notched athlete of the week honors after garnering MSC Swimmer of the Year honors and earning six all-conference honors. The junior pulled away from the field to clock a 55.49 to win the 100 fly.  That time is the third fastest time in the NAIA this season.  Zoellner closed out the meet earning a pair of conference titles on the final day.  Zoellner went 2:03.63 to win the 200 back, before winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.27.  She is ranked fifth and second, respectively, in the NAIA in those events.  In addition to her individual success, Sarah was part of UC's winning 400 medley relay (3:51.23), while also being on the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay that tallied all-conference honors.
 
Alexander Poulsen earned athlete of the week honors after capturing six conference titles and four meet records.  The sophomore opened the meet by clocking a 20.27 to win the 50 free.  Poulsen followed that up by touching the wall in 44.22 to break the meet record in the 100 free.  In the 100 fly, Poulsen went 49.28 to earn his third individual conference title of the meet.  In addition to his individual success, he was part of a trio of relays that all set new meet record times.  The 200 free relay went 1:20.59, the 400 free relay clocked a 3:00.33 and the 200 medley relay went 1:28.81 to finish atop the podium.
