#7 Cumberlands Falls to Faulkner in NFCA Finale

Columbus, GA – The seventh-ranked University of the Cumberlands closed out play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Sunday with a 4-3 loss to Faulkner University. The Patriots move to 11-5 overall on the season.

FAULKNER PULLS AWAY IN FINAL INNING

Faulkner jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on an error and a pair of RBI singles to take a 2-0 advantage.

Cumberlands responded in the third. After Maleah Clinton singled and stole second, Grace Ross delivered a two-run home run to left center to even the score at 2-2. The blast marked Ross' eighth home run of the season and continued her strong tournament showing.

The Eagles regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single, but the Patriots answered in the bottom half. Clinton doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Ross to tie the game at 3-3.

Jessica Cord worked efficiently through the middle innings, retiring Faulkner in order in both the sixth and much of the seventh.

In the top of the seventh, Faulkner used a leadoff single and a walk to create traffic before delivering a two-out RBI single to take a 4-3 lead.

Cumberlands went down in order in the bottom of the seventh as Faulkner secured the one-run victory.

Clinton led the Patriots offensively with a 3-for-4 performance and two runs scored, while Ross drove in all three UC runs with a home run and a sacrifice fly.

Cord worked 6.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) while scattering nine hits.

Ross was also recognized for her performance in Columbus, earning NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team honors. Over five games, she recorded three home runs and 11 RBIs, delivering key run-producing hits in multiple contests, including a grand slam against Thomas and a two-run homer versus RV College of Coastal Georgia. Her power at the plate was a major factor in Cumberlands' offensive production throughout the weekend.
