Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked Patriots women's lacrosse team erased a four-goal fourth quarter deficit, however, it wasn't enough as the fell to top-ranked Benedictine 16-15 in overtime Tuesday night at the UC Lacrosse Complex.  With the win, the Ravens move to 5-0 on the season, while the Patriots move to 8-1.

The Ravens controlled the possession early, however, three saves from Kimsey kept the game scoreless.  The sophomore also started a transition that was capped off when Friel connected with Allison Joines for a goal giving Cumberlands the early advantage.  Lobbezoo added a goal two minutes later to extend the lead, before Rittman put a well-placed shot into the back of the cage making it 3-0.  Cumberlands defense tallied a pair of caused turnovers, while Kimsey made a late save giving the Patriots the 3-1 advantage after the first quarter.

Benedictine score three straight goals to open the second quarter before Rittman found a cutting Lenora DeVries for a goal tying the game at 4-4.  Minutes later, Cumberlands tallied back-to-back foal from DeVries and Friel to take an 6-5 lead with 6:00 remaining.  The Raven netted four straight goals to take a 9-6 lead into the break.

UC won the opening draw control of the third quarter as Rittman connected with Baker for the goal to pull the Patriots within two at 9-7.  Baker tallied a goal and an assists as both teams traded goals making it 11-9 with 12:35 left.  The two teams traded goals two more times, before a late goal by the Ravens made it 14-11 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Ravens extended their lead to 15-11 with 13:20 remaining, before Cumberlands started to rally.  Kimsey made a save and on the ensuing transition Joines found Friel for a man-up goal pulling UC within three, 15-12.  Baker and Hadac each notched a caused turnover before Baker converted back-to-back free position goals to make it 15-14 with 4:51 remaining.  The score remained that way until under two minutes remained when Baker forced a turnover to give UC possession.  On that possession Rittman dodged in and netted the equalizer, tying the game at 15-15 with 1:11 remaining.  UC won the draw control, however, couldn't convert a shot as the game went into overtime.

In overtime, Cumberlands won the opening draw control but the Ravens defense forced a turnover.  After a failed clear by UC, Lorelei Siegel scored the game-winning goal with 1:24 remaining for the 16-15 final.
