Williamsburg, KY – Patriots Athletics is coming off a strong performance last week highlight by a trio of top-three finishes at their respective NAIA National Championships. Cumberlands success came in part to several outstanding individual performances as the Patriots had six individual national champions that are named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Wednesday.
In women's swimming, Bella Hoare was a seven time NAIA All-American. The MSC Freshman of the Year edged out the competition to capture the 500 free national title, clocking a school record time of 4:56.45. Hoare notched fourth place finishes in both the 400 IM and the 1650 free, while being part of four Cumberlands relays that earned All-American honors. Her performance helped UC to a third place team finish.
For the first time in program history the Cumberlands men's swimming team notched a national runner-up finish, while having three individuals capture national title. The MSC Freshman of the Year, Titouan Bernot clocked a 4:22.64 to win the 500 free and break the school record. Bernot closed out the championship as a 6x NAIA All-American placing top three in both of his individual events.
UC had a one-two finish in the 100 back as senior Ruthiik Satti went 48.09 to capture his first individual national title. Satti closed out the championships as a 4x NAIA All-American. After placing second in the 100 back, Brandon Holder captured a national title in the 200 back clocking the second fastest time in program history. Holder was a 3x NAIA All-American.
The Patriots also had a pair of national champions on the track as Tavon Davis and Luca Madeo captured national titles. After earning the top-seed in prelims, Davis clocked a 1:16.20 to win the 600m and break the school record. Davis was also part of Cumberlands All-American 4x400 team. Madeo defended his indoor 5k title from a season ago with a strong 14:13.24 finish to be crowned an individual champion.
