Williamsburg, KY – The thirteenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands split its doubleheader with Milligan University (TN) on Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots dropped the opener 4-3 before responding with a 3-2 walk-off victory in game two. Cumberlands moves to 15-8 overall on the season.
Game 1: FOURTH INNING SWINGS OPENER
Milligan opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
Cumberlands answered in the bottom half as Jenna Fabela and Abby Guinn reached before Emily Cole delivered a sacrifice fly. Grace Ross followed with an RBI groundout to give the Patriots a 2-1 advantage.
The Buffaloes capitalized on three Patriot errors in the fourth inning, plating three unearned runs to take a 4-2 lead.
UC cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth when Krystal Anne Castaneda singled to right center to score Ryann Livingston, but the Patriots were unable to bring home the tying run late.
Jessica Cord allowed just one earned run in the loss, while Brenna Parker and Emily Delgado combined for scoreless relief work.
Game 2: DELGADO DELIVERS WALK-OFF WIN
Cumberlands responded in game two behind timely hitting and strong pitching.
The Patriots struck first in the opening inning when MaKenzie Henderson doubled home Alyssa Garcia to make it 1-0.
UC added another run in the third when Emily Delgado singled to left center to score Maleah Clinton, extending the lead to 2-0.
Milligan tied the game in the sixth on a two-RBI double, setting up a decisive final inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Grace Ross singled and Garcia followed with a base hit to put two runners aboard. Delgado then delivered the game-winning RBI single to right field, scoring Ross and sealing the 3-2 victory.
Ross finished 3-for-3 in the win, while Delgado collected two hits and two RBIs. Henderson added an RBI double.
Taylor Haymans worked 5.1 innings before Delgado entered in relief and earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings to close the game.

Cumberlands will open Mid-South Conference play this weekend with a three-game road series at Campbellsville University (Ky.). The Patriots will face the Tigers on Friday, March 13 at 3:00 PM, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 at 1:00 PM and 3:30 PM in Campbellsville, KY.
