CORD TOSSES ONE-HIT SHUTOUT IN MSC OPENER
Jessica Cord delivered a dominant performance in the circle, throwing a complete-game one-hit shutout to lead the Patriots to the conference-opening victory. Cord worked all seven innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three and working around seven walks. With the win, Cord improved to 11-5 on the season and recorded her 10th complete game of the year.
Both teams struggled offensively early as the game remained scoreless through the first four innings. Campbellsville threatened in the opening frame with runners on second and third, but a defensive play at the plate kept the Tigers off the board.
Cumberlands broke through in the fifth inning. Kristen Smith singled to start the rally before Addison Baker entered as a pinch runner and advanced into scoring position on a stolen base. Abby Guinn then reached on a Campbellsville error, allowing Baker to score the game's only run.
Cord continued to navigate traffic over the final innings, stranding runners in scoring position in both the fifth and seventh to preserve the shutout.
Smith recorded the Patriots' lone hit in the contest while Guinn drove in the game-winning run.
