Campbellsville, KY – The thirteenth-ranked University of the Cumberlands completed a three-game Mid-South Conference series sweep of RV Campbellsville University (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon, earning a 9-0 run-rule victory in game one before taking a 7-2 win in the nightcap. The Patriots improved to 18-8 overall and 3-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
Game 1: PATS ROLL TO 9-0 RUN-RULE WIN
Cumberlands jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Grace Ross launched a solo home run to left center to put the Patriots ahead 1-0.
The Patriots broke the game open in the second inning. After Kristen Smith singled and Jae Jae Phillips was hit by a pitch, Krystal Anne Castaneda moved the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Emily Cole then delivered an RBI single before Phillips scored on a wild pitch. Ross later walked and Alyssa Garcia reached on an error that brought home two more runs, extending the lead to 5-0.
Cumberlands added two more runs in the third when Jenna Fabela and Smith singled before Castaneda lined an RBI single to left field. Moments later, Smith stole home to push the advantage to 7-0.
The Patriots closed the scoring in the fifth when Phillips blasted a two-run home run to left field, sealing the 9-0 run-rule victory.
Jessica Cord dominated in the circle, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six to improve to 12-5 on the season.
Game 2: DELGADO'S GRAND SLAM SEALS SERIES SWEEP
The Patriots struck first again in game two. Grace Ross doubled to open the game before Emily Delgado singled down the left-field line to bring her home. Later in the inning, Addison Baker scored on a wild pitch to give UC a 2-0 advantage.
Campbellsville answered in the bottom of the first when Jessie Daniels delivered a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.
Ross regained the lead for the Patriots in the third, blasting a solo home run to right center to make it 3-2.
The game remained tight until the seventh inning when Cumberlands delivered the decisive blow. With the bases loaded, Delgado launched a grand slam to left center, pushing the Patriots' lead to 7-2 and securing the series sweep.
Ross led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored, while Delgado finished with five RBIs, including the game-clinching grand slam.
Taylor Haymans started in the circle and worked five innings before Jessica Cord entered in relief, closing out the final two innings to secure the victory.

Cumberlands will return home next weekend for a three-game Mid-South Conference series against Lindsey Wilson University (Ky.) at the UC Softball Complex. The series begins Friday, March 20 at 4:00 PM, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM in Williamsburg, KY.
