No. 6 Cumberlands Sweeps Georgetown to Stay Perfect in MSC Play

Georgetown, KY – After taking game one of the series on Friday, #6 UC (22-5, 6-0) completed its second consecutive Mid-South Conference series sweep with a pair of wins over Georgetown (8-17) on Saturday afternoon at Robert Wilson Field. Cumberlands took both games of the doubleheader with an 8-2 victory in game one and a 17-0 shutout in game two. The Patriots combined for 25 runs on 28 hits across the two games and outscored the Tigers 25-2 on the day.

No. 6 Cumberlands Takes Game One, 8-2
UC used timely hitting and strong pitching to secure an 8-2 win in the opener.

Stuart Tharle earned the win to improve to 5-0 on the season after tossing five innings and allowing two runs while striking out four. Jaden Morris closed the door with two scoreless innings, striking out four to earn the save.

At the plate, Derick Andiarena led the way with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, including a home run and three RBI. Ronald Almanzar added a home run and two RBI, while Dariel Castillo chipped in two hits and scored twice.

After three scoreless innings, the Patriots broke through in the fourth. Johnboy Rittenhouse doubled to drive in the first run before Zamaurion Hatcher and Pedro Vasquez each brought in runs to give UC a 3-0 lead.

Georgetown responded with two runs in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Cumberlands answered immediately in the fifth inning. Castillo singled and came around to score on an RBI hit from Andiarena. One batter later, Almanzar launched a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Patriots added two more runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run homer from Andiarena, to seal the 8-2 victory.

No. 6 Cumberlands Dominates in Game Two, 17-0
The Patriots completed the sweep with a dominant 17-0 shutout performance in the nightcap.

Nolan Wilson earned the win on the mound, improving to 4-0 after throwing six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out eight. Brayden Stewart worked a clean inning in relief to finish the shutout.

Offensively, UC erupted for 17 runs on 18 hits in the victory. Derick Andiarena continued his strong day, finishing with multiple hits and driving in runs, while Johnboy Rittenhouse went 3-for-6 with three RBI. Caden Petrey added two hits and two RBI, and Justin Veloz collected two hits and four RBI.

The Patriots got things started in the second inning, scoring three runs on a combination of hits and Georgetown miscues to take a 3-0 lead.

UC continued to build the advantage in the third, adding three more runs highlighted by a two-RBI double from Veloz to make it 6-0.

Cumberlands broke the game open in the middle innings. The Patriots plated three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth before exploding for five runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 16-0.
A solo home run from Chris Seay in the seventh capped the scoring and secured the 17-0 victory.

The Patriot pitching staff limited Georgetown to just two hits while striking out 11 in the shutout.

Cumberlands will return home on Tuesday March 24th for a midweek matchup against Union Commonwealth at 3 p.m. ET.
