Williamsburg, KY – Will Rogers netted a season-high six goals, while Nathan Foksey made 20 saves to lead the sixth-ranked Patriots to a 10-6 win over (RV) Life Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, Cumberlands improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Running Eagles move to 2-3 on the year.
Rogers finished the game with seven points and has moved to second in program history with 144 career goals.
Dom Lulow chipped in four assists and five points, while
Caden Abbott and
Carter Barrett notched three points each.
Dakota White went 9-18 on faceoffs and scooped five ground balls as
Kuwese Walker made three caused turnovers. Foskey made 20 saves, including eight in the fourth quarter, for the win.
It was a defensive battle from the opening whistle as Foskey tallied four saves to keep the game scoreless midway through the first quarter. UC struck first a Lulow connected with Rogers for a goal at the 5:42 mark. White won the faceoff and on the ensuing possession Abbott found Rogers make it 2-0.
Michael Adams added a caused turnover as the Patriots took a 2-0 advantage after the first period.
UC was put on their heels early in the second quarter, however four saves from Foskey and stifling defense held Life at-bay. Five minutes into the period Barrett and Rogers both connected for goals, off assists from Lulow, extending the lead to 4-0. The two teams traded goals, before wrapped around the crease and fired a shot into the cage making it 6-1 at the break.
Life netted five of the first six goals in the third quarter cutting UC's lead to 7-6. Foskey made a pair of saves and on the transition
Ty Grooms found Lulow for a late goal extending Cumberlands advantage to 8-6.
Foskey added a pair of saves to open the fourth quarter while the veterans Lulow and Rogers connected again giving Cumberlands a 9-6 lead. The Patriots defense kept the pressure on not allowing Life to get the looks they wanted. With 3:22 remaining Rogers found Barrett for a goal leading to the 10-6 final.
Cumberlands returns to the field Thursday, March 26
