Williamsburg, KY – The #8 Cumberlands men's lacrosse team erased a six goal halftime deficit, however, fell in overtime to #9 Webber International 13-12 Thursday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex. With the win, the Warriors improve to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while the Patriots move to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in AAC play.
Dom Lulow netted a season-high six goals, while
Carter Barrett netted a hat trick.
Dakota White went 16-26 on faceoffs and scooped ten ground balls. Jeffrey Fished and
Jacob Ingle combined for seven caused turnovers and eight ground balls.
Nathan Foskey made four saves in the game.
Webber utilized efficient shooting to jump out to a 9-3 lead at halftime.
UC started to rally in the third quarter as Lulow ripped a shot into the back of the cage making it 9-4 with 12:45 remaining. Cumberlands defense forced a turnover and on the ensuing possession
Sid Stewart netted an unassisted goal. White won the next faceoff and moments later
Cole Bastian connected with
Will Rogers for a goal brining UC within three at 9-6. The two teams traded goals before White found Lulow off the faceoff for a goal cutting the deficit to 10-8 midway through the third period. The Patriots defense force a trio of turnovers while Lulow and
Alex Heck added late goals to bring UC within one at 11-10.
Cumberlands defense kept up their pressure, before Bastian found Lulow for a transition goal to even the score at 11-11 with 11:37 remaining. Webber retook the lead midway through the fourth quarter and extended their lead to 13-11 with 3:10 remaining. Foskey made a save before Heck grabbed the rebound, off a
Dennis Smith shoot and finished for a goal cutting it 13-12 with 2:16 remaining. UC forced two Warrior turnovers and with 32.1 seconds remaining Lulow ripped a shot just under the crossbar for the equalizer. UC won the faceoff, however, Rogers' shot was saved sending the game into overtime.
White won the opening possession of overtime, however, UC's shot went wide. Webber's Jeremiah Loo netted the game-winning goal with 2:17 remaining for the 14-13 final.
