Cleveland, GA – #2 Cumberlands women's lacrosse team had 12 different Patriots scored goals as they opened AAC play with a 23-4 win over Truett McConnell Saturday afternoon at the TMU Lacrosse Complex. With the win, UC improves to 12-1 overall, while the Bears move to 2-5.
Allison Joines and
Ashlee Baker lead the way with six points each, while
Kaitlyn Friel netted four goals.
Lenora DeVries added three goals and four points.
Emma Rittman scooped a team-high four ground balls and a pair of draw controls as
Anna Lobbezoo and
Christina Carter tallied five caused turnovers each.
Mikayla Kimsey and
Madilynn Gardner combined for seven saves in the win.
Kimsey notched three saves in the first five minutes of action keeping the game scoreless. UC broke the through with 7:12 remaining as Joines found Baker in front of the cage for a goal. Baker notched a pair of goals, before Joines put a well-placed shot into the cage making it 4-0 with 4:24 remaining. Cumberlands added four consecutive goals capped off with a goal from
Kameron Mayfield extending the lead to 8-0 with 3:02 remaining. Gardner added a save before Friel added a late goal making it 9-0 after the first quarter.
UC opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals from DeVries and
Elizabeth Crittenden, who scored her first goal of the season making it 11-0. UC defense continued to limit the Bears opportunities while as
Machenzie Willis connected with
Kendall Doran for a goal. In the closing seconds of the half, Doran found Joines as her shot beat the horn making it 14-1 at the break.
Friel netted the goal on the first possession of the third quarter. Cumberlands added three straight goals, including one from
Jennifer Barnica as UC took an 18-2 advantage into the fourth quarter. The Patriots continued to control the possession in the fourth quarter adding four straight goals, capped off by a
Rachel Humphreys goal giving Cumberlands a 22-2 lead.
Kayla Zielinski added a late goal as UC notched the 23-4 final.
The Patriots return to the field Saturday, March 28
