Williamsburg, KY – The second-ranked Patriots set multiple program records, including most players scoring in a game with 17, and holding their opponent to zero shots as they defeated Columbia 29-0 Saturday afternoon at the UC Lacrosse Complex. UC improved to 13-1 overall and 2-0 in AAC play while setting single game records for assists (23) and points (52).
Ashlee Baker led the way with two goals, five assists, while Rittman and Carter combined for 12 points, 11 draw controls and five ground balls.
Allison Joines and
Anna Lobbezoo each netted hattricks in the win, while adding a pair of assists.
Kaitlyn Friel chipped in four draw controls and five ground balls. In total UC had five players net their first goal of the season.
UC jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter with there first four goals coming in the first three minutes of action. On the next Patriot possession Baker found
Madison Rupp in front of the cage for her first goal of the season, making it 5-0. UC forced a pair of turnovers before Joines connected with
Jenna Veech, who netter her first goal of the year. Carter added a goal and an assist, while
Jennifer Barnica netted a pair of goals, the second off an assist from
Kendall Doran to make it 11-0.
Audrey Donaldson scored her second goal of the period making it a 12-0 lead.
The Pats extended their lead on the second possession of the second quarter as Barnica found Friel for a goal. Cumberlands had multiple goals called back, however, there defense kept the Koalas in check before
Machenzie Willis found Joines for her 22nd goal of the year making it a 14-0 lead. The Pats added man-up goals from
Tess Lisy and Lobbezoo to take a 16-0 lead into the break.
Cumberlands netted goals on their first three possession of the second half, including
Reese Kincaid's first goal of the season making it 19-0. After two more goals and with the shot clock winding down Carter sent a pass in front of the cage to
Koral Hadac for a one-timer goal, marking her first goal of the season. The Patriots added a late man-down goal from Carter to make it 23-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
After Lisy forced a turnover early in the fourth quarter, Baker found
Mikayla Kimsey cutting towards the cage for her first career goal. Doran, Willis, and
Rachel Humphreys netted goals as part of a five-goal run for the 29-0 final.
It marks the Patriots tenth shutout in program history. Cumberlands also limited Columbia to 3-22 on clears in the game.
Cumberlands returns to the field Wednesday, April 1st, when they travel to Athens, TN to face (RV) Tennessee Wesleyan for a 12 p.m. start.
